Chronic and Complex Injuries & Pain
Get relief from chronic and complex pain.
Life’s Work is known nationally and internationally for our success in treating patients with chronic and complex pain and injuries. Our leading research on chronic pain has helped us and other physical therapists better understand and treat injuries in every area of the body (see Research section below).
Many physical therapists are wary of attempting to treat complex injuries. Others rush to prescribe a one-size-fits-all treatment that doesn’t address all aspects of the problem. Their clients are left feeling hopeless and frustrated.
You shouldn’t have to live that way. If you have struggled with pain, and previous treatments haven’t worked for you, we can help.
- We consider how your whole body is working as a system to understand the underlying issues causing your pain.
- We look more deeply to identify all the factors contributing to your pain, not just the obvious ones.
- Using an integrated approach and the very latest research, we design a personalized program that includes pain neuroscience to help you recover.
Our Approach to Complex & Chronic Injuries & Pain
If you’re like many of our clients, you may be tired of hearing false promises of “miracle cures” and “quick fixes.” Chronic pain and injury is usually not an easy fix, but recovery is possible. If you have chronic pain, your body is hurting beyond its normal healing cycle. Figuring out why can be challenging, which is why many people with chronic pain and injury have trouble finding successful medical treatments.
The physical therapists at Life’s Work are excellent problem solvers. We know how to get to the bottom of even the most complex types of pain. Our clinical training and expertise in orthopedic manual physical therapy and our emphasis on personalized, research-based treatments make us more successful at treating chronic pain and injury than other physical therapists, according to national averages.
If you’re dealing with pain or an injury that occurs episodically—or you’re on pain medications and wish to eventually stop them—we can help you. Come see us at Life’s Work.

Understanding Chronic & Complex Pain & Injury
Chronic, persistent pain sometimes begins with a traumatic injury that never fully heals. Other times, it comes on over time. Maybe you suspect your pain is related to another health problem, aging, or an ergonomic issue. Or maybe it appeared seemingly out of nowhere.
Complex pain is sometimes referred pain. Disc issues in your back can cause leg pain. Neck problems can lead to headaches or pain in your shoulder or arm. Plus, chronic pain can make our nervous system become hyperactive and sensitized to pain triggers, which makes us feel the pain more intensely.
One of the most frustrating aspects of dealing with chronic pain and injury is not knowing where it came from or why it’s not going away. That’s where we come in. We’ll work together to get to the bottom of your pain so we can treat it, and you can get back to fully living and enjoying your life. Here’s how.
